The warning about the ZTL around Via Etnea is the most useful thing on this site. We parked outside the zone and walked in, and the fine that our friends got in the post months later never came to us.

Filled up on the approach road before the airport loop, as advised. The return lane at Fontanarossa is signed but the fuel station inside is not where you want to be with a flight in ninety minutes.

Up to Rifugio Sapienza in a manual through Nicolosi. An hour of climbing, nothing a normal car cannot do, and the cable car does the rest.

Taormina is pedestrian and the streets that are not are terrifying. We used the Lumbi garage and the shuttle, which is what everybody should do.

Collected in Catania, drove the A19 across the island, dropped in Palermo. The one-way charge was quoted on the booking page, which is more than the portals managed.

Syracuse in the morning, Ortigia on foot. The Talete car park on the edge of the island is the one to aim for; the bridge into the old town is not for cars.

I am 22 and was told plainly at booking that the alcohol limit for me in Italy is zero, not the usual figure. Small car, no surcharge surprises, and I drove carefully.
