Terms of Use

What this site does, and what it does not

cataniacarrental.com is published by Catania CarHire, Via Fontanarossa 20, 95121 Catania, Italy. It is a comparison and referral service: it lists cars from independent rental companies at Fontanarossa airport and around Catania, and passes your enquiry to the one you choose. Catania CarHire owns no vehicles, runs no rental desk, insures nothing and takes no payment from you.

These terms cover browsing, comparing and sending an enquiry. The hire itself is governed by the rental agreement the supplier gives you at handover, which prevails on any point about the car.

Your contract is with the supplier

Selecting a car sends your dates, name and contact details to the rental company operating it, which confirms availability, sets the deposit and fuel rule, and issues the reference. The contract that results binds you and that supplier; Catania CarHire is not a party to it and cannot amend, cancel or refund it.

Using this site costs you nothing: when a rental that began here goes ahead, the supplier pays us a commission from its own margin, which is neither added to your price nor allowed to decide listing order.

Each supplier writes its own rules on changing and cancelling, and they differ between listings, so check your car's before you confirm. After that, every change goes through the supplier, quoting your reference, and a refund is the supplier's decision.

Prices come from a live feed

The day rate, deposit, mileage, fuel policy and young driver terms on each listing are read from the supplier's own data as the page loads. Prices in Catania swing hard with the season, and a car can be gone while you are still reading about it. The binding figures are those the supplier confirms when you book, not those on an earlier results page. Photographs show a class, not the exact car. Report a listing that looks wrong to [email protected].

What the supplier will ask of you

Each rental company sets its own conditions and meeting them is your responsibility: a licence held for the stated period, an age inside the listed band, identification in the lead driver's name and a payment method the supplier accepts. A licence from outside the EU usually needs an International Driving Permit beside it in Italy; a desk may decline the car without one. Details submitted here must match the documents presented at pickup, or the booking can be refused.

Fines, tolls and the ZTL

Traffic fines incurred during the rental are the driver's responsibility, including the camera fines for entering the ZTL, the limited traffic zone covering the historic centre of Catania around Via Etnea and Piazza Duomo. The notice goes to the registered keeper, so the supplier receives it, names you as the driver and passes it on, usually with its own administration fee and often months after you have flown home. Motorway tolls and parking charges are treated the same way. None of it passes through Catania CarHire; we cannot cancel or reduce a charge the supplier has levied.

The limit of our liability

Our part, done with reasonable care, is to present the listings accurately and pass an enquiry on without delay. We never see the car, do not employ the person who hands it over and have no say in its price. A cancelled reservation, a disappointing car, a disputed damage charge or a deposit returned late is a claim against the supplier under your contract with it.

Where Italian and European law let us limit it, we answer only for direct loss caused by our own negligence in running this website, not for indirect or consequential loss, a missed flight from Fontanarossa or an unused hotel night in Taormina being the obvious examples. Nothing here excludes liability for fraud, wilful misconduct or gross negligence, or anything else the law does not let us exclude.

Using the site, and posting reviews

The site is for finding a car you mean to hire. Scraping the listings, firing automated queries at the search, sending fictitious booking details or putting the forms to any unlawful or commercial use breaches these terms, and access may be blocked.

Post a review only about a rental you actually took, and only as yourself: nothing for a supplier, nothing against a competitor, nothing defamatory. Posting lets us publish, shorten or remove it without payment, and a review we cannot tie to a real rental comes down.

Intellectual property

Everything Catania CarHire wrote or built for cataniacarrental.com, guides, comparisons, layouts and code, is ours unless a page credits someone else and may not be reproduced without written permission. Rental companies keep the rights to their names, logos and vehicle photographs.

Governing law and the courts

Italian law governs these terms, and any dispute about them goes before the Italian courts. One carve-out applies: a consumer living in another EU member state keeps the mandatory protections of that state's law, and may bring or face proceedings at home where that law provides. Personal data has a page of its own.

Revisions and contact

These terms are updated when the site or a supplier relationship changes; the version on this page is the one in force from the date under the title, and using the site after a revision counts as accepting it. Anything unclear here can go to [email protected].
